In November last year I took part in Continental Tyres Run2Stop initiative, a grueling team challenge involving running, cycling and community based projects over a week long period. Our team won the overall competition and were hosted at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil where we were fortunate enough to attend the France/Ecuador game at the Maracana!
I took part in my 16th Two Oceans Marathon this year finishing in 3hrs 55mins and claiming 2nd position in the Masters Category, a good indicator that my training was on track for Comrades 2014.
This year I ran an amazing Comrades, finishing 1st in the Masters Category for the 2nd consecutive year. In 2015 I will be lining up for my 27th start in this fantastic event, I am amazed that even with so much experience in this grueling event I still continue to learn on how to best prepare and tackle this race to get the best possible outcome on the day.
After a good layoff from training and attending the FIFA 2014 World Cup I got back on the road and although not fully race fit took part in the Mandela 21km event on the 31st August 2014 claiming the 1st Master position in a time of 87:40. In the 1st 3 years of this event I have taken part in all the distances on offer (42.2km, 10km and 21km) and picked up a win each time – a special event and very inspired and motivated just to be a part of it.
I am preparing for the Soweto Marathon on the 2nd November 2014, my 2nd attempt at this event having won my age group in the 2012 event.
On the 9th November 2014 Save Orion AC will be hosting their 10km and 21,1km events – come and join us, we look forward to staging a top event and would love to meet you for a chat at the finish!
